ISTE Special Interest Group for Virtual Environments
The SIG Virtual Environment seeks to explore all things related to education in virtual environments. The group sponsors some regular events as well as some special events that come up during the year. Our regular events are:
Speaker Series
Our Speaker Series occurs the 3rd Tuesday of every month (Except August, we like to take a breather) in Second Life.
TIME: 5pm SL time (8pm EASTERN)

Back-Channeling is highly encouraged, with Spiff doing his best to ask questions in the order they are given. Please look at the tabs above for the current speaker bio. We do stream the series for those who prefer to hear the speaker without going into Second Life.

Office Hours/Show and Tell
An informal hangout at the SIGVE site on Second Life each week on Tuesday night from 5:30 PST til 6:30 PST to answer Virtual World Questions, make suggestions, share successes and hear recommendations.

Connected Hour
SIGVE sponsors a periodic "Connected Hour". These are live sessions within virtual worlds that are also broadcast, providing an active and passive option. The Connected Hour is taped, edited slightly, and can be viewed on YouTube after the event. These events will highlight the Virtual World educational community and the events they provide throughout the year. SIGVE supports all educators in Virtual Settings and makes every attempt to share those events with a larger community. SIGVE welcomes anyone curious or interested in the educational possibilities to join in any of these events, in whatever mode is most suitable. Connected Hour events will be posted on the Connect Tab on this website.

Virtual World Tours
Wednesday nights at 5 pm Pacific Time Cyrus Hush provides tours to interesting locations in Virtual Worlds. Tours generally begin at the SIGVE Headquarters on Second Life at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/EduIsland%209/62/99/22.
EDuMachinima Fest
SIGVE sponsored EDUmachinima FEST - an annual Machinima Festival open to educators and students to promote the art form and engage participants in a collaborative activity that demonstrates the value and benefit of Virtual Environments in education. Machinima entries are shared during the annual ISTE Conference.
